Sympathy for the Devil

I almost feel sorry for him… day after day, speech after speech, meeting after meeting and tweet after tweet… people still support him ~ those same people who wore the red hats and flooded the internet spreading fake news ~ they are standing tall by their man.  Billing himself as the only one who could come in and ‘save’ our country, he was (and probably still is) look at as the Messiah. I recall reading  and hearing his supporters  speak about Trump being the choice of God.  How frightening for them to think that God was really not in charge of our election but actually a narcissistic loose cannon and his helpful Russian friends (whether he knew it or not).  Trump is spiraling out of control, digging his hole deeper by the day, and alienating our global friends. Most every day we can hear him speaking the alternate truth.  Watching Trump’s presidency is like watching a train wreck or a singer perform who can’t carry a tune… cringing, I watch, through my finger, shaking my head…  I almost feel sorry for him because he is making himself and our country look like a fool…. and a man in his 70’s should behave with more dignity and speak with more care…

Impeachment? I don’t think it will happen…. but I can hope…

People say that everything is either a gift or a lesson…. well, America?  Have we learned our lesson yet?  If so, it is time to move on and do better next time.

No Intelligence – Give Me A Break

No intelligence… I heard CNN newscaster, Don Lemon utter these words.   As he was interviewing a Trump spokesperson about the claim that our former president ordered a wire-tap on Trump’s phone at Trump Tower, he simply asked the spokesperson if President Trump had any ‘intelligence’… and then “So, what your saying is that he has ‘No intelligence’.”  I laughed out loud and I am sure that once he said it he knew what it really meant.

Of course our president has no intelligence.  Conspiracy theories, die-hard supporters, poor judgement, and a quick finger when it comes to Twitter – he has those in spades… but intelligence he is lacking.  He is surprised at the complexity of our healthcare issues, shocked that people are concerned about his connection to Russia, and has mentioned our former president more times in the past six weeks than Obama mentioned Bush in his entire presidency.  He is becoming more unhinged as the days pass.

We have weathered more White House scandal than we have seen in decades… and he is just getting started.  Wait until he gets on a roll!

Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills, the ability to deal with new or trying situations.  Intelligence is what is required to process and synthesize information, to sift through a problem and come up with reasonable solutions.  It is the ability to rise to the occasion, use clear language and speak to a topic.  It is what we need as a nation.

A man who leads without intelligence is a danger to us all! We are being led by someone with no intelligence… and those who surround him are continuing to make excuses for him and cover it up…  Those who surround him need to take his phone at night… give us all a break!

Fake News

I was certain, when I turned on the television this morning, that what I was getting was ‘fake news’.  It HAD to be.  Certainly it was put forward by those Trump hating, rainbow bleeding, far-left leaning, CNN loving, paid protestors and other subversive organizations who scream ‘Not My President’ and wear those horrid ‘pussy’ hats.  The story was so outrageous that it must be fake…

CNN, The New York Times, Politico and other news organizations had been banned from a press conference.  Only Trump-friendly press were allowed to be at the briefing.  What does this mean for you?  Well, if you are not interested in truth and only want to see news that supports our president and you are willing to take what he says as fact without question, then you are good.  If however, you wonder what the hell is going on in Washington, then you should be very upset about this latest development.

Let me be clear, CNN is not going anywhere… they are on right now, reporting on the DNC election, on statements released by the White House, and by actions that are happening every day… what we won’t get to see is the White House and President having to answer questions that challenge them and make them uncomfortable.  Those banned news organizations are the voice of critical thinkers and, yes, the opposition.

I understand that part of the competitiveness of media is getting the scoop… it would have been nice if the reporters and the organizations they represent had made a statement by saying ‘if they don’t go in, we don’t go in’… sometimes we need to step beyond our rolls and join in the action.  It is time for the press to step out from behind their cameras and note pads and stand up for what they know is right.  As much as our President likes a crowd, speaking to an empty room just might send a message.

We believe in the free press… they are integral to our democracy whether you agree with them or not.  If you don’t like their slant you can change the channel. The ‘fake news’ needs to be challenged and if all we have are Trump-supporting news organizations doing the reporting, all that ‘fake news’ that originates from the White House, will be all we hear…. SAD

Dishing it Out

It is so interesting that Trump and Trump supporters are calling foul when the opposition and news jump on his ‘missteps’ and ‘alternative facts’.  It is interesting when they shout unfair, untrue, and unpatriotic as he is called out and scrutinized by the public.  Have they forgotten the election?  Have they forgotten ‘Lock Her Up’ and ‘Drain the Swamp’, Little Marco, Crooked Hillary, and Lying Ted, ? Have they forgotten ‘ Look at that Face?’, ‘Snore Fest Jeb’… where were they? Where was he?  He spent over a year saying the most outrageously untrue things, calling names, and disrespecting  respected leaders in our government… how quickly they have all forgotten his SOP.

Trump and his supporters are concerned that there is an unprecedented level of fake news, yet they won their election by promoting fake news.  His head man, Steve Bannon, is the king of fake news… get a grip, people!

The problem is, that unlike Obama (who our current president seems to be obsessed with), Trump reacts, highlights and defends every bit of news that paints him in a bad light.  He is obsessed with the past statements of people who spoke out against him during his campaign which is why, after a month in office he has only appointed 14 people to key positions… he can’t find anyone with much experience who did not support one of the 17 other candidates!  His vetting process is whether or not they said something mean about him in the past.

Last night my husband asked me what HAPPENED in Sweden.  Nothing.  Nothing happened.  Is the media and public supposed to just ignore that.  Trump got his information from Fox News. I am not saying they peddle untruths, but Trump must not have really been paying attention to what the story was really about (an issue for him) and then repeated what he thought he heard to thousands and then millions of people.  HE IS THE PRESIDENT! It is our duty and the media’s duty to call him out when he says crazy s***.  Our DUTY!  This is not being unfair, this is about public safety and world respect. It is about holding our president accountable.

He was, and still is, great at dishing it out… if he can’t take the heat… time to get out of the kitchen.  All this whining does need to stop… Mr. Trump, enough is enough, stop whining!

An International Embarrassment

Since the election and inauguration friends from all over the world have contacted us about Trump.  What was America thinking? Do we know what Trumps is saying and doing? We used to think so highly of America, we used to hold it up as an ideal, and strive for things American.  We are scared and worried about the future.

We can’t defend our country or the decisions and attitudes of our leader.  We are as sad and shocked as our friends around the world.  We want them to know that we didn’t pick him, are speaking out against him and don’t agree with the path he is leading our country down.

Years ago we traveled to Europe… we wore shirts and hats from New Zealand.  It wasn’t long after 9-11 and we thought about not wanting to be targeted by people who looked to hurt Americans.  That sentiment and feeling is even stronger now.  Being an American abroad means you need to defend this disastrous decision, his policies, antics and tweets… he is the ultimate Ugly American. I feel lucky to be American, but embarrassed by our president and the fact that so many of us voted for him.  America First is reminiscent of the spoiled child yelling ‘me first’ over and over.  Yes, I know what it really means… but I believe we are part of a world and that we need to work together and help each other.  If your country is so great and GOD is so much a part of who you think we are, then where is our faith in the good in people, our common decency, our compassion and  our care for our fellow man.

Our partners around the world are worried that our past promises will not be honored, that we have become a country of hate and fear, and that we are not who we once were.  We need to show that this is not true… our leader does not speak for the majority of Americans and he does not speak for me.  If we are lucky he will implode sooner than later.  Even so, I think the International community will forever have an altered opinion of who we are… sad, very sad

Great Again?

Great Again?  Who is this message really for?  I was listening to NPR the other morning as they interviewed a panel of four citizens… all educated with good jobs, all live in the same community, two Trump supporters and two Hillary supporters, two white, two black, two women and two men… The white woman and black man voted for Trump, the black woman and white man voted for Clinton… it was a polite, civil, intelligent and thoughtful conversation… we don’t hear those much these days.  My ‘take away’… the kind people who voted for Trump didn’t give his inflammatory words much weight, they hoped he would denounce racism and the groups who spout hate, but they voted because they believed he would help our economy… until that interview they didn’t think about what his slogan ‘Make America Great Again’ really meant, and how that slogan means something different depending on who you are and where you are coming from.

‘Great Again’ to you may mean better jobs, less unemployment, affordable health insurance, lower medical bills, less regulation, better education, less crime, fewer abortions, and a stronger America… Which era are we heading back to? The 90’s, the 70’s, the 50’s… maybe the 20’s?

‘Great Again’ to others may mean segregation, don’t ask ~don’t tell, white only signs, the glass ceiling, fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, poverty far beyond what we have now, lack of funding for social programs many American’s depend on, the draft, the cold war, Japanese internment, lynchings, no rights or protection for the LGBTQ community, big industry pouring poison into the environment, coal miners dying from lung disease, no overtime or minimum wage, no low-income housing, and no way out…If people are confused then remind them… Great Again didn’t mean the same thing to everyone.

Rather than ‘Great Again’ … let’s just make America better… not quite as catchy… but we may be able to get behind it and build on what is already good in our country, press forward with what is right, and finally let go of the America our parents and grandparents grew up in… we must continue to move forward… looking forward ~if we keep looking back we’ll only trip and fall

Great Again?  No. In spite of our new leaders we need to fight for a different plan, a different slogan, and a different America…we need to fight for: Better than before…
